A Passion Sparked by Home
For Emily, interior design has always been more than just a profession, it is a calling. Even as a child, she loved styling corners of her own home, arranging spaces in ways that felt warm and personal. That passion eventually found its way into her career, especially when the COVID years nudged her to take the leap.
“I’ve always wanted to venture into design,” Emily reflects. “And what keeps me going today is seeing homeowners step into their finished space, smiling because it feels like home. That satisfaction is what drives me to keep doing better.”
Five Years of Crafting Stories Through Space
Emily has now spent close to five years in the industry, and although she describes her experience as a “rollercoaster,” she appreciates the lessons learned along the way. The highs come from the joy of helping families settle into a home they love, and the challenges lie in managing expectations, balancing budgets, and ensuring everyone feels heard.
However, for Emily, these challenges create an even deeper commitment. “This is more than a design job,” she explains. “It’s a service job. You’re not only creating beautiful homes, you’re also learning how to connect with people.”
Styles That Feel Like Home
Emily’s design style is rooted in creating homes that feel effortlessly timeless yet deeply personal. She is particularly drawn to Modern Luxury, Modern Minimalism, and Japandi aesthetics, which she believes reflect what many Singaporean homeowners desire today: elegance that doesn’t overwhelm, simplicity that still feels warm, and layouts that are beautiful yet functional.
She explains: “Singaporeans often go for modern looks because they are clean and timeless. With Japandi especially, it is about bringing in natural textures, light woods, and muted colours that create calm. Modern Luxury, on the other hand, brings in touches of sophistication, like marble, soft lighting, metallic accents, that elevate a space without making it feel cold.”
Emily’s portfolio demonstrates her versatility. She seamlessly adapts her approach to different client personalities, whether they are young couples dreaming of a chic and functional condo, families seeking a comfortable and storage-friendly HDB, or homeowners who want to refresh their resale apartment into something that feels brand new.
Transforming Spaces, Not Just Rooms
One of Emily’s greatest strengths lies in revamping resale homes. She loves taking spaces that feel outdated or cluttered and reimagining them completely. “With resale condos or HDBs, you have more room to re-plan,” she says. “You can shift the flow of the layout, move pipes, reconfigure rooms. It gives me the creative freedom to really transform the space from scratch.”
While she works on BTOs and landed homes as well, she explains that resale projects allow her to stretch her creativity and give homeowners a fresh start. “It is not just about replacing what is there, it is about asking: how can this space be better? How can it support the way a family lives today?”
Every Detail Holds Meaning
Emily’s design philosophy can be summed up in one thought:
“Every element has a voice, and every detail adds meaning to the home.”
To her, even the smallest details like a cabinet handle, the way light filters through a window, the choice of a texture, all of these carry weight. These details can shift the mood of a room entirely.
What makes Emily unique is the way she imagines herself living in the homes she designs. “I always picture myself in the kitchen I’m planning: would I enjoy cooking here? If I sit in this living room, does it feel cosy and welcoming? When I look at a feature wall, does it inspire pride and comfort? That’s the standard I bring to my clients.”
This empathetic approach ensures her designs are not just visually stunning, but deeply livable. Homes are not showrooms; they are sanctuaries. And Emily designs them to be exactly that.
Built on Trust, Loved for Transparency
Beyond her style and skill, Emily is loved by clients for her honesty. She believes transparency is key to avoiding disputes and ensuring smooth renovation journeys. From the start, her quotations are itemised and detailed. Sometimes overwhelming at first glance, but always clear.
“Some designers close the deal first and only bring up issues later,” she says. “For me, what you see is what you get. If something costs more, I’ll tell you upfront. Being transparent avoids disputes and builds trust.”
That honesty builds relationships. Many clients tell her simply: “Emily, I trust you. Do what you think is best.” For an interior designer, that level of trust is the highest form of respect.
Emily was such a joy to work with – responsive and responsible from the get-go. We appreciate how easy it was to communicate our ideas to her and seeing it all come to life exactly as she detailed was a joy. In the course of the renovation, Emily constantly kept us updated on the progress, and even after the handover, she was very prompt in following up any issues that arose. – Joan Koh
