“The homeowners were really inspired by the peaceful and pleasing Japandi style, so we decided to utilise one single light wood laminate for the whole living room, and similarly one single walnut laminate for the whole bedroom. Using a single laminate creates a very cohesive look, lending to the calming feeling that we want to create. We also chose earthy textures like stone-look worktops and limewash paint to complement the warm wood tones. The ceiling design also worked to introduce more organic curved shapes, while introducing more ambient lighting options. Certain parts of the carpentry were also designed to create cute corners for the owners’ many furry friends, creating a completely custom home for their needs.”

“The bomb shelter is carefully concealed with ash wood fluted panel and grey marble feature wall to create an entrance feature piece. For the kitchen, Owner’s initial requirement was for a shaker style kitchen cabinet with gold handles. We incorporated an island with a waterfall sintered stone and a full height bronze mirror to elevate the kitchen to a modern luxury dining akin to a showroom all while maintaining existing BTO flooring.




Common Toilet incorporated the use of wall panels to provide a seamless look without grout lines while choosing a 30×60 grey floor tile as a base. Master toilet combined the use of both vintage floor tiles together with the 60×60 marble looking wall tiles to transform the space into perfect place to utilize the bathtub.”

“During our initial on-site meeting with the homeowners, we identified key challenges, including limited natural sunlight due to the home’s lower grounds. Considering the homeowner’s love for plants, we aimed to seamlessly incorporate greenery into the design while addressing lighting constraints. The dining area, with its unconventional shape, posed another challenge as it needed to accommodate frequent hosting. To maximize space and maintain design consistency, we introduced a long dining settee that doubled as storage, extending from the shoe cabinet to a full-height storage unit. This not only provided practical storage but also demarcated the dining and living areas.




The layout, following a dumbbell format, cleverly utilized the full-height storage, creating a hidden wall feature that enhanced the perception of space. “We chose neutral and warm colours to form the colour palette, to make the home cosy and inviting. As the clients wanted a full stretch of storage cabinets from the entrance to the kitchen, we decided to use open shelves to break up the middle portion, so that the area still looks inviting instead of being visually heavy and clunky. We also continued the tile backsplash along the dry kitchen area, to visually connect the wet and dry kitchens, so that it looks consistent and connected, rather than being two separate spaces.




For the master bedroom, we used a different colour of paint to create visual interest at the wall behind the bed, which is a cost-effective and good way to spruce up the aesthetic of the room. It’s not always necessary to build up big carpentry feature walls, which may make the space feel smaller, which is counterintuitive to the original intention of keeping the two bedrooms open to enjoy a larger space.




What was particularly helpful to ensure a smooth renovation was that the clients were clear about what they want, so it was easy for me to understand the brief and deliver accordingly.”

“For this project, the owners and I created a home that’s simple and modern, incorporating different styles of Scandinavian. We went for a darker rustic colour in the kitchen for an illustration of natural and raw materials, at the same time, bringing a modern finish to the living hall with soft hues & minimalistic style of laminates. “The homeowners are very clear of what they were looking for, that is to make their home bright, clean & consistent. To bring more light to the house, I chose the light tone laminates with the huge addition of mirrored laminates incorporated into the carpentry works. Additionally, I added the LED Strips for carpentry and false ceiling works for more lighting options.

“The homeowners actually specified what they wanted in the initial brief. They have got a lot of ornate furniture and accessories that I think will best suit the theme of Modern Oriental.




RED is the prominent colour in the Oriental style. Perhaps because it always represents the “good luck” in Chinese culture. However, the homeowners were not really keen on this color (that will possibly make their home look traditional), so they requested me to use other colours instead, such as GREEN (used as accents) and WOOD TONES.”

“For this home, we embraced an open concept for the kitchen area as the homeowners wanted their home to feel airy, bright, and spacious. At the same time, the open kitchen with the full-height sliding glass doors in the playroom allows the parents to work in the kitchen while still being able to keep an eye on their toddlers.




For the household shelter, we incorporated full-height mirrors on the feature wall that hid the household shelter, to make the space feel even more spacious and also allow the family to take cute #OOTD pictures. In the master bedroom, we built a wardrobe that segregated the sleeping area from the vanity area and toilet. This also gave the female homeowner a cozy vanity area to pamper herself comfortably.




Generally, the home features lots of wooden textures to align with the boho interior design style. To break the monotony, we added complementary solid colors in the smaller areas of the house, like the bathrooms and kitchen backsplash.”

“In this Nordic Scandi design, I want to introduce the homeowner’s characters into their space. As we all know, BTO is normally small, so it’s important to have all the necessities while still guarantee their lifestyle and functionality. “Dark Moody atmosphere by using darker hues of any color. Dark colors can be used to create soft and masculine space, full of moody elegance. It’s dark, but definitely not dull. “In this project, I was requested to transform a 4-Room HDB flat into a Modern Luxury Studio Suite but still bring in the Functionality, Entertainment and Relaxation. One of the main materials I used to deliver the luxuriousness is the 300 x 600 Light Beige Marble floor tiles (from the living area to the back yard).




In the living room, the full height storage TV console (with some onyx stone features & room diffusers) helps create an elegant touch with a sense of relaxation.”

“By having the shoe cabinet lined up perpendicular to the main door, I managed to effectively elongates the foyer walkway. The back of this cabinet also purposely serves as a TV wall, that creates a relatively private dining area & living hall space.




Overall, the color schemes are primarily kept within light natural wood tones paired with mutted shades, for a comfortably light inducing effect – one of the key tips to deliver the Japandi theme.

“Based on the owner’s requirements, I hacked off the wall between the Living Room and Bedroom 3, to create a bigger and movable space. Additionally, I tried to inject the adaptability & possibility into my design (based on the owners’ personal lifestyle), for example: they are able to swap the sofa location with the dining table if they are bored of sitting in the same area days by days. The design of Semi-open kitchen was selected to guarantee the aesthetics and can effectively get rid off cooking odors smoke.”
